Halter Clinic

Selecting, conditioning, training and exhibiting a miniature halter horse can be a rewarding challenge.

Evaluate your potential halter star for conformation, movement, and attitude. A balanced and well muscled body, straight legs and elegant movement, and overall attractiveness are essential. Honestly acknowledge weaknesses so they may be improved. Recognize strengths so they may be emphasized.

Expect at least three to four months to get your horse show ring fit. Exercise, nutrition, hoof care, grooming, training and immunization are integral aspects of a conditioning program. Consult respected professionals to assist you in formulation and execution of a plan tailored to your needs and abilities.

Prepare your image for the show ring. Dress neatly and cleanly to compliment your horse, not overshadow him. Go to a show and note how different outfits appear to help select your own. The most crucial part of your turnout is the positive attitude that you have done your homework and are proud to present your horse to be judged.

Remember that by attending a show, you are requesting the opinion of the judge. Whether you agree with his opinion or not, graciously accept the placing and try to learn from the experience.
